Four Ways to Strengthen Self-Esteem and Raise a Powerful Girl
There are many things that you can do to encourage positive self-esteem in your daughter.
Encourage a Positive Self Image : Let your daughter look in a mirror and describe the things that she likes about herself. The more she believes in her own beauty, the harder it will be for others to make her feel uncomfortable about it.
Help Her to Pick Role Models that Look Like Her: When decorating her room, backpack, folders, pencil holders and other things, suggest stickers, posters and other things that look like her. She may resemble Octavia Spencer, Bessie Coleman, Melissa McCarthy, Whoopi Goldberg, Renee Zellweger, Shirley Chisholm, Ida B. Wells or Tika Sumpter. Use these women as examples to show your daughter that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and shades including her own.
Over Praise Her: As human beings, we enjoy positive attention. In fact, some even crave it. Your daughter is no different than the next human being. Be sure to encourage her with positive words as this will help her to develop a healthy sense of her own worth. If your daughter is a smart thinker who takes joy in expressing her intellectual opinions, let her know it and encourage her brilliance.
Identify Her as Important: If you are a Blogger, write a very positive and praising article about her, or young girls and use her picture in the article. Screen print the page, have her to autograph it and then frame it and hang it on her wall. Every time she looks at the hanging picture, it will increase her self-esteem more and more and more.
