Reading vs Game Playing on Digital Devices
Our current state of society believes that children are more likely to read a book if it is on a device such as an iPad or Kindles. But new research shows that this is not necessarily the case.
For students who already experience difficulty with attention, the immediate rewards of playing a game may easily outweigh the serious long-term benefits of reading.
In order to use a device to read books, children need to know how to use digital devices for the purpose of reading books.
Children need to know how to access reading materials through applications. This in itself is difficult, being that children generally learn how to play a game on a digital device before they learn how to search and read books on them.
